A GRAPEVINE GROWS HONORS LEADERS IN AUTOIMMUNE RESEARCH
Two people of particular merit in their arenas were awarded and toasted at the 4th annual A Grapevine Grows event on Sunday, September 13 at the Bellevue Club. Jane Hoyt Buckner, M.D. the upcoming President of Benaroya Research Institute in Seattle (BRI) and Ray Heacox General Manager of KING 5, KONG & NWC News were honored. Dr. Buckner was recognized for her exceptional contributions in the area of immune system/autoimmune research and Mr. Heacox for his extraordinary service to the community while living with multiple sclerosis. Research recognition was the Jerry Award named for the long-time director of BRI, Jerry Nepom, M.D., and PhD while the Focus Award brought attention to the vast amount of civic support given by Heacox.
Returning to cheer the recipients were 2014 winners; Hans Ochs, MD of the Children’s Research Center the Jerry Award and Molly McCabe of Molly’s Fund, the Focus Award.
The festivities included three information kiosks offering autoimmune material with questions and answers by event guests. Scientists from BRI guided the process including the latest research directions.
To celebrate the very special recipients and the attended guests a champagne toast was led by emcee Dick Foley.
